Newton United 3 Kingsteignton Res 2

Kingsteignton faced a Newton United side doing well in the league this season on a bitterly cold afternoon at Bakers Park. Kingsteignton controlled the game from the outset and took an early lead, Lee Ranson capitalising on a defensive mistake to lob the ball over the keeper from 25 yards for his first goal for the club. Kingsteignton again pressed forward, another lobbed effort from Craig Pidwell almost catching the keeper out again, long range efforts from Doo and Clausen putting more pressure on United. Kingsteignton were again undone by a long throw in, a glanced header at the near post looping into the net.

The second half showed more of the same, midfielder Craig Pidwell at the heart of every attacking move was influential throughout the game. Having struggled with defending balls into the box all game United took the lead, a close range header from a corner punishing the Rams defense who were solid during open play were again undone from a set piece. Kingsteignton piled on the pressure in the last 20 minutes, the tireless Charlie Tucker saw his effort hit the post, Curtis Beetschen saw his quickly taken free kick saved well by the keeper and chances from substitute Jason Eddy and Craig Pidwell were cleared off the line. Not for the first time this season the performance did not match the results for Kings who will take a lot of positives from the game.
